Watermelon Banzai DRONN, the dungeon synth side project of the synthwave renaissance man known as Gregorio Franco, returns once more with their darkest and creepiest release yet entitled "Servants of Onu." Ideal for listening alone in the middle of a cold autumn night or when huddled together in a group when delving deep into a dimly lit cavern while rolling twenty-sided dice, DRONN perfectly encapsulates the terrifying experience of the unknown like an unseen eldritch horror from beyond this mortal coil. Favorite track: It Stirs.

FLESH MECHANIC
I've been throwing around the word "best" a lot lately, but damn, I have to use it again. This is the best DRONN release to this date. Flawless from start to finish, full of passion for this style, talent for cinematic soundscape and perfect pacing to truly capture the sense of medieval times, with some gothic horror stuff to boot (first half of this album mostly). And Crumbling Arches completely blew my mind by how beautiful it is.
Favorite track: Crumbling Arches.

G-Prime The best way to describe DRONN is just to say what the project is: Gregorio Franco doing dungeon synth. This album proves he's one of the most talented and versatile composers on the scene, displaying his skill with both low-key ambience and epic, intense melodies in one well-paced package. Servants of Onu tells a story without uttering a word, cultivating a foreboding atmosphere that worms its way down your spine. Favorite track: Blood Sacrifice.

about

Millenia ago, the Beast of Time fell asleep under the trees. It lay dormant beneath the forest for untold centuries. That is, until a foolish king and his army met a rival kngdom in battle beneath the tallest oaks.

Blood seeped through the roots and underbrush, staining the soil red for days. It trickled down between the rocks and twigs, around ancient dead from battles long past and through layers of sediment until it reached the Beast's dormant body.

It stirred.

The blood drenched its body and pooled around until the Beast became as red as the forest floor. Its chest slowly heaved as it took its first real breaths in centuries. Groaning with the weight of the forest, it slowly arose.

The blood seeped in its pores and surrounded the Beast, awakening its long-forgotten hunger for the blood of man. The poor king and his followers had forgotten the old tales; the nursery rhymes warning of an eldtrich creature asleep in the forest, waiting to reclaim the world above.

All it needed was blood. And humanity delivered.

Trees cracked and bent, the earth shifted and tore itself apart. A watchman on the tallest tower in the land saw a mountain rise in the forest, making a terrible sound and shaking all the earth.

Onu has risen. The fate of mankind is sealed.
